In truth, we had been forewarned, way back in 1949, when geophysicist, Dr. M King Hubbert, first published his findings – in them he predicted that the fossil fuel era, would be of a very short duration.
Yet Hubbert’s predictions were, on the whole, ignored. It seems that politicians preferred inertia, for the reality of ‘peak oil’ was inconceivable, yet now, amid the financial ruins of our boom and bust economies the consequences of peak oil is fast becoming a certainty… what we now know however, is that our inability to act not only threatens the future security of the world’s economies, it threatens everything we know…
